Jim Farmer of Oconee Reptiles holds a black rat snake. Black rat snakes are not poisonous and not aggressive. According to Farmer, they can be useful for rat and mice problems.

Emergency crews responded to a fatal wreck on 436 La France Road in La France on Friday afternoon. Two teenage boys were involved in the accident. One died on scene and the other was taken from the site.

"When your out on the ocean its way more fun", said Shaw. Only a few days after receiving inches on snow, temperatures in the upstate will reach the 60's and lower 70's going into the weekend.

Start of 2009

A large group of students met at the field to play ultimate disc to take advantage of the unseasonable temperatures. Highs on Monday reached the lower 70's.



Anderson resident McNeil Grier turned 104 last week.

Vickery is at the Willow Creek Living Center for short term rehabilitation and has plans to go back to her home in Anderson. She lived next to the Pleasnat View Baptist church in Anderson for several years and watched after many of the ministers children giving her the nickname, "Nanny".



Glenn Rodway looks underneath a sink to repair its plumbing in the bathroom of 228 Foster street. The bathroom and other areas of the house are being repaired and upgraded as part of a block grant the city received through the Appalachian Council of Governments.






Pendleton High School's C.J. Gleaton plays three sports for the Bulldogs; football, baseball and basketball. He is an all-region player in all three sports.

Recent Spot News



Ronald Harris and his dog "Libby" were helped out of Harris' 18 wheeler through the windshield by members of the Broadway Fire Department on Tuesday morning. Harris' truck flipped on its side after making a turn on to Snow Road in Anderson. Both Harris and his dog did not suffer any major injuries.







Jason Davis, left, of the Flat Rock Fire Department sprays down Emory Craft of the Starr Fire Department to remove soot from his suit. Both Flat Rock and Starr Fire Departments responded to a house fire at 1010 Lakemont Road in Anderson County around 4:15 on Monday afternoon. The house is considered a total loss. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The DeHaven Family

Teresa and William "Buddy" DeHaven of Iva have adopted 14 children over the years and have 3 biological children of their own. They currently live in an old church that is no longer used for services. The DeHavens bought the church because of the space that it provides them. Their adopted children come from several different backgrounds and range in age from 7 to 26. Many of the children also have physical and mental disabilities.

The children of the DeHaven family walk past the old First Baptist Church in Iva that the DeHavens bought and are currently living in, on the way to watch the Iva Christmas parade. The church provides them the space that they need to accommodate all their children.



Terresa DeHaven, left, serves a large pan of stir fry to her adopted children. The children usually line up with a plate and she serves them one by one. DeHaven says that this is a system that she has been using for years.




The DeHaven family bows their head in prayer before eating dinner at their home in Iva. The family currently lives in the old First Baptist Church in Iva that they bought because of the space it provided them.

The family shops at stores such as Aldi and Bargain Foods in Pelzer for the discount prices. It takes two or more carts to hold all the food for the DeHaven family.

Veterans Day

Betty Sanders served in the army and is a veteran of the Korean War.



Korean War veteran R.T. Kiser, 77, attached a picture of his grandson Evan Beck who recently enlisted in the Army and finished basic training to his cap. Kiser was one of the many veterans in attendance at the Veterans Day Observance at the Richard M. Campbell Nursing Home on Tuesday.

Thomas Culberson, the youngest of six brothers to serve in the military, received many metals for his service in the army between 1958-1963. His oldest brother served in the Army during World War II and fought in the Normandy invasion and the Battle of the Buldge.
